Joan Bortolon, president of the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight program, was grateful enough of the IEA’s $7,000 to the program earlier this year that she paid a visit to the IEA at its Fall Meeting in September. “Thank you so much for the donation,” she told attendees at the dinner highlighting the meeting. The Lincoln Honor Flight was one of three programs that the IEA funded in 2016-17 at $7,000 each, enabling Illinois veterans to fly to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II memorial. Bortolon said 97 cents of each donated dollar goes to directly to providing the service, leaving 3 cents for administative costs.
